About YourAnimeRank

Because anime ratings have a problem — and we're fixing it.

The problem with existing ratings

Anime ratings on most sites are not as accurate as they look. Part of the issue is recency bias — newer shows tend to get rated before the hype dies down. But there's also a broader shift happening: as the overall quality of storytelling has evolved, audiences have adjusted their expectations, and what used to be considered average now gets rated the same as what used to be considered great. The result is a bloated rating scale where everything clusters near the top and genuine classics don't stand out the way they should.

The real issue: no comparison

Other sites just show you a score and ask you to match it. There's no reference point, no context — just a number floating in isolation. When you rate a show a 7 without comparing it to anything, that 7 means something completely different to every person who uses it. Scores without comparison aren't really scores. They're vibes.

How YourAnimeRank works

YourAnimeRank is built around comparison. Instead of asking you to assign an abstract number, the site derives your score by having you compare anime against each other — which one do you actually think is better? Your choices feed directly into a score that reflects your real preferences, not just a number you guessed.

The Smart Rate system takes this further — it's a gamified head-to-head process where you pick between series one matchup at a time, and the system calculates an accurate personal score straight from your decisions. No sliders, no overthinking. Just choices.

Scores are also calculated in increments of 0.25 rather than the standard 0.5 found on other platforms, giving you twice the precision and a ranking that actually separates shows meaningfully instead of grouping everything together.
